WriteLife Announces New Book Celebrating the “Nerdy” Life of Omaha Native
(Omaha, NE; May 18, 2010) – WriteLife, LLC, a unique and collaborative publishing company for fiction and non-fiction authors, has published a collection of humorous essays about one woman’s experiences as a self-professed lifelong nerd.
Nerdy Thirty, by author Wendy Townley, is now available at www.writelife.com and major online retailers such as Target, Barnes & Noble and Amazon.
Set primarily in Omaha and small towns throughout Nebraska, Nerdy Thirty comically recounts Townley’s “nerdy” experiences in elementary school, high school, college and her twenties, leading up to her thirtieth birthday. The book celebrates the awkward and unusual situations Townley found herself in, including camping for the first time, spending a weekend at a rodeo, masquerading for a night as Audrey Hepburn, socializing at a lesbian bar, and finding her voice as a writer.
“When I turned 30 a few years back, I closely examined my life and marveled at the sheer number of unusual experiences I had experienced,” Townley said. “There was one common thread woven through all of these events: how awkward I felt. Being blessed with a wry sense of humor gave me the courage I needed to expose my collection of life experiences and write about them with the hope that my stories will make people laugh—fellow nerds or not. We have all been in an odd experience in our lives; I just happen to have enough to publish a book on them.”
An Omaha native, Townley earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 2002. She is now working toward a master’s degree in communication. Townley has worked as a newspaper reporter and freelance magazine writer for more than 10 years. Nerdy Thirty is her first book.
